rizal's martyrdom

The Martyrdom of Dr. Jose Rizal, a Light and Sound Sculptural Tableau is a "living" memorial honoring the Philippine's national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal.

The tableau is an open-air theater presentation, featuring a 30-minute dramatization of the most poignant moments of Rizal's final hours, through 8 monumental sculptural clusters in an interplay of light and sound.

A collective obra of three National Artists (Leandro Locsin, Lamberto Avellana and Lucio San Pedro), numerous talents and experts, this living memorial on the martyrdom of Rizal is dedicated to the youth.

It was for the youth, whom Rizal called the "hope of Motherland", that he gave up his life, thereby hastening the movement for reforms and freedom. Rizal's passing gave rise to other heroes who shared his sense of nationalism and nationhood.

For the youth and for those who are left to carry on the struggle, this is a timely reminder that freedom and democracy should be upheld.

"Maglalaho akong lubusan... Papanaw ako ng hindi
masisilayan ang pagmamadaling araw sa aking bayan.

Kayong makasasaksi sa pagpitak ng umaga, batiin ninyo
ang liwanag at huwag ninyong kalimutan ang mga
nalugmok sa nagdaang karimlan!"
