GANTIMPALA THEATER’S RESTAGING OF “KANSER”

SPECIAL SATURDAY EDITION

For its Special Saturday edition, Concert at the Park partners with the Gantimpala Theater Foundation, under the artistic direction of Tony Espejo, for the restaging of Dr. Jose Rizal’s “Noli Me Tangere”, titled “Kanser”, on August 29, 2009, starting at 6:30 p.m. at the Rizal Park Open-Air Auditorium, Rizal Park, Manila. Written for the stage by Jomar Fleras, “Kanser” is directed by Adriana Agcaoili and stars Jao Mapa as Crisostomo Ibarra and Fame Flores as Maria Clara, with the support of the GTF Actors Company. Admission is free.

Concert at the Park is a public service project of the National Parks Development Committee, under Executive Director Carlito A. Fajardo and the National Broadcasting Network. Freddie A. Edos is the Executive In Charge of the concert project. Gie Arnold writes the script.

“Kanser”, first staged in 1980, at the Cultural Center of the Philippines, tells of the homecoming of Crisostomo Ibarra  after his European studies. He arrives in his hometown, San Diego, to rekindle his relationship with his sweetheart, Maria Clara and to pay his respects to his late father, Don Rafael. His arrival opens his eyes to the many ills plaguing his hometown and makes him realize that the reign of greed and the abuses of the people in power are at its peak.

Bringing life to the characters in “Kanser” are Jao Mapa/Jojo Riguerra (Crisostomo Ibarra), Fame Flores/Meliza Reyes (Maria Clara), Manolet Concepcion (Padre Damaso), Dante Balois (Pilosopong Tasyo), Ed Murillo/Jose Jeffrey Camanag (Kapitan Tiago), Xeno Alejandro (Elias), Meldea Flor Formacil (Sisa), Irra Cennina (Padre Salvi/Mang-aawit), Von Arroyo (Mang-aawit), April Anne Dolot/Agnes Ramos (Donya Victorina), Niesty Lopera (Don Tiburcio), Vangie Inocencio (Tiya Isabel), John Zyke Santos (Basilio), John Dencel Galoso (Crispin), Molts Meneses (Teniente Guevarra/Tarcilo), Jun Nayra (Alferez/Sacristan/Guardia Civil), Benedick Hernandez (Katulong/Taong Bayan/Guardia Civil), Paul Jake Paule (Lukas/Sepulturero/Sakristan/Guardia Civil), Kervin Lubiano (Bruno/Taong Bayan/Guardia Civil), Maricar Gavino (Katulong/Taong Bayan) and Marinela Sevidal (Sinang/Taong Bayan).
