This Sunday, July 25, 2010, starting at 5:00 p.m., ethno-tribal rock music takes center stage in Concert at the Park, with featured band – Kadangyan, composed of Baba Mitra (strings/vocals), Jan Govinda (percussions/vocals), Agit (bass), Bakt Raj (percussions) and Zaryo (drums). Ms. Minette Padilla hosts the show. Admission is free. Concert at the Park is a regular weekly public service project of the National Parks Development Committee, under Acting Executive Director Salome T. Habal, and the National Broadcasting Network. Mr. Freddie A. Edos is the Executive In Charge of the project. Gie V. Arnold writes the script. Kadangyan, a Cordilleran term meaning “rich or wealthy”, was formed in October 2000 in Cebu City, with members coming from the 3 large islands in the country, namely, Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. Its music is a fusion of different Filipino traditional beats with elements of today’s music, using indigenous hand-made instruments and modern drums and bass guitar. In 2002, Kadangyan released their first independent album, with the carrier single titled, “Kaluluwa”, a universal soul chant and a call for rain. The group is a regular in the annual Ms. Earth pageant. Last December 27, 2009 up to January 2, 2010, the band was in Malaysia for the Stompin’ Sabah event. They are currently working on their second album. For their concert, Kadangyan has prepared the following program, all Kadangyan originals: BABANAM, IBA’T IBA, UMPAP-A, UMAGA, BABANAM, KALULUWA, SURIWARI, TRIBU, ANUP, PAGBABAGO and LIWANAG.
